Wrinkles, Farts & Cuddles… What More Could You Want?

French bulldogs are easily among the most unique creatures on the planet. These short bulky dogs have massive personalities and an intense capacity to love. With a long-standing history as an excellent companion dog, French bulldogs were the ninth most popular dog breed in the USA and the fourth most popular dog in the UK as of 2014.

Grown French bulldogs are typically thick and muscular in appearance. Despite how stout they appear, Frenchies tend to run on the sensitive side. Due to the short-snout on this brachycephalic breed, they often have issues related to airway obstructions. French bulldogs are also prone to developing skin issues and allergies on and around their wrinkly noses, faces and tails.

French Bull Dog Personality: Are You The Perfect Frenchie Owner?

I’m sorry for tooting

You’ve been warned, this breed is known for being quite gassy! Besides the occasional, or not so occasional stench, the French bulldog makes an excellent companion for families with or without children.

The one thing they simply cannot tolerate is being left alone. In order to keep your Frenchie happy they need lots of attention and very little alone time. You especially don’t want to leave them alone outside in the heat or cold where they can easily become ill and even die.

Easy to train, intelligent and affectionate are just some of the many qualities that make French bulldogs excellent pets. They also tend to be kid friendly and incredibly playful. Since Frenchies don’t need as much exercise as other breeds they make a great apartment dog. Just make sure they go on a few short walks throughout the day.

The Legend Of The French Bulldog

The French bulldog originated in France in the 1800’s. As the story goes, English lace makers displaced by the Industrial Revolution moved to Normandy, France in search of work. Many of them brought along miniature English bulldogs (technically the reject puppies considered too small by Bulldog breeders). These unique dogs created a sensation in France, as locals flocked out in hoards to get their own little lap dog with an adorable wrinkly, pushed-in face.

England-based breeders began sending all bulldogs deemed ‘too small’ to France. As a result, it wasn’t
long before there were very few miniature Bulldogs remaining in England. The growing popularity of French bulldogs led to many changes within the dog’s breeding so that it became less like the bulldog it originated as. It was given its own name, the Bouledogue Francais.

The breed’s notoriety made it a popular dog amongst society’s elite members, as well as Parisian prostitutes. Interestingly, there was a French bulldog (insured for a grand sum of $750) aboard the ill-fated Titanic.

French Bulldog Health & Wellness

French bulldogs make an excellent pet for first time dog owners, although they do tend to be high maintenance. They are susceptible to a number of common ailments such as an elongated soft palate, bleeding disorders, hip dysplasia, allergies and heat sensitivity, as well as skin irritations and crusty, painful noses.

Forget the endless costly treatments that never work, we have created a line of all-natural affordable products for many common ailments experienced by French bulldogs.

How To Heal Dry, Crusty Bulldog Noses

O’Reilly before & after

French bulldogs often develop a dry, rough or crusty nose. The nose may peel, scab, bleed and even lead to noticeable depression.

Dogs rely on their sense of smell to investigate and analyze the world around them. When their nose is dry and irritated it cannot smell with the same vigor. As a result, a dry, crusty dog nose is painful and it’s also debilitating to the everyday life of a dog.
We created Snout Soother with French bulldogs in mind. The all-natural ingredients packed into the soothing balm are approved for use on even the most sensitive dogs. Most see a noticeable difference within 24-hours of applying the balm, and within days the nose is almost completely healed.

Snout Soother provides instant relief, plus a layer of defense to prevent further damage by protecting your dog from potential irritants.
